In the Western Costa del Sol region its principal urban centre is 50 metres above sea level and is 12 kilometres from the city of Málaga and 5 from the Pablo Ruiz Picasso International Airport.Among the foothills of the Mijas mountain range, lies the territory of Torremolinos, formerly a district of Málaga and a separate municipality since 1988. There are four well-differentiated population centres: El Calvario, El Bajondillo, La Carihuela and the network of streets that make up the most traditional district of the city.
The Arabs, took advantage of the stream that had its headwaters in the area of Los Manantiales and built numerous mills all along this stream. In about 1300, in the middle of the Nazarite time, begun construction of a defensive tower at the end of the Calle San Miguel to prevent, invasions from the sea. The name of the city Torremonilos (“Tower-Mills”) alludes to the tower and the mills.
La Carihuela Beach
Located at only 50m from the Hotel Roc Lago Rojo****, La Carihuela beach covers from the imposing rock from El Bajondillo to the Marina. It it is 2.100 m long and about 40m wide. The beach has a well-market swimming zone and in summer many activities and shows are organised. The 16th July, El Carmen Fair, will be celebrated with a boat procession with the Virgin and fireworks are lighted.The beach has all kind of facilities and services: an access for disabled, deck chairs and beach umbrellas hire, beach bar open all year round, showers, peddle boats, lifeguard, litter bins, parking, promenade, beach volleyball, cleaning service, public telephone, security surveillance and children area.
Culture in Torremolinos
Moreover than sun and beach, Torremolinos offers the visitor other services related with congress, culture and sport tourism. In its Exhibition and Congress Centre there take place institutional, bussines and social events. Among the most outstanding monuments from this locality there are, the parish San Miguel Arcángel, neoclassic style; the parish Nuestra Señora del Carmen, located in la Carihuela quarter; la Casa de Los Navajas (the knife’s house), building from the 19th century following the Neo-Mudejar style; La Torre de Pimentel (Pimentel Tower) of Arab origin, symbol of the municipality, located at the end of the San Miguel street; and the Molino de Inca (the Inca Mill), the only one what still exist from all that were and gave the name to this municipality, next to it there is a magnificent botanical garden.
In the holiday calendar the most popular dates are: the last September week, Feria de San Miguel (Fair of San Miguel, patron saint of Torremolinos); the week before the pilgrims camp next to the San Miguel hermitage, which can’t come close to holding all the people who want to hear the mass inside the church, and once religious ceremony concludes the party begins and lasts until dark. Singing, dancing and good food are at the heart of this massively attended pilgrimage. In late September, San Miguel, which is held in the nearby pine groves of Los Manantiales. The locality also is a beehive of activity on the Día del Turista (Tourist’s Day) the first Thursday of September. On the first Thursday in October it celebrates the “Día del Pescaíto” (Pescaíto day), in which the local restaurants hand out servings of pescaíto to both tourists and residents of Torremolinos. Other cultural and festive events that take place in Torremolinos are the Retro Ball Contest, the Flamenco Festival, and the Verdiales Day.

Benalmádena Cable Car
The cable car of Costa del Sol is locataed at about 13km from the Roc Hotel Lago Rojo **** and about 16km from the Hotel Roc Flamingo ***.
